151st Street closure begins May 20

Beginning Monday, May 20, crews expect to close 151st Street west of US 31 for a maximum of 60 days. Click here for more details.

About the Project

The New US 31 Hamilton County project will upgrade US 31 to freeway standards from I-465 to State Road 38. Once complete, there will be new interchanges between 96th Street at the Marion-Hamilton County line to 216th Street in Westfield. Upgrading the 13 miles of existing highway between I-465 and SR 38 to Federal freeway standards will be, in terms of dollars, the largest and most aggressive road project ever attempted in Hamilton County.

The New US 31 Hamilton County project is intended to reduce congestion, improve safety, and provide continuity of commerce and regional travel for a US highway that stretches from Michigan to Alabama. Gov. Mitch Daniels' Major Moves program is upgrading or bypassing congested sections of US 31 that, when completed, are expected to cut a half hour off travel time between Indianapolis and South Bend.
